Good Reads

Reading is a family affair in our home! Below are books and authors we’ve enjoyed over the years—some classics, some thrilling, and some quirky, but all beloved.

What I Am Reading Now:

Family Favorites: Fun Reads We Read As A Family:
  • J.K. Rowling – We love the entire Harry Potter series; Magic, mystery, and growing up.
  • Rick RiordanPercy Jackson and more: his books blend mythology and adventure perfectly.
  • Angie Sage – Her Septimus Heap series gave us a fresh take on dragons and magic.
  • Eoin Colfer– The Artemis Fowl series opened our eyes to a whole new world of the Fae.
Some of My Personal Favorites:
  • Janet EvanovichStephanie Plum series: Laugh-out-loud Jersey girl, bounty hunter chaos. I can’t wait for each new release!
  • Maureen Jennings – Her mystery novels inspired the Murdoch Mysteries TV series, which I adore.
  • Sophie Kinsella – Her romantic comedies like Can You Keep a Secret? the Shopaholic series and many more, are fun, relatable, heartwarming, and filled with hilarity.
  • Julia Quinn – I first fell in love with the Bridgerton Family on Netflix, Then discovered I love the books even more.
  • Robyn Carr – Her Virgin River series is another one I discovered on Netflix first. As always the books bring so much more.
  • Michael Connelly – I had heard the name before but never got into his books till I discovered The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. After that I had to get the books and they did not disappoint. I may have to look into some of his other series as well.

  • Laura Ingalls WilderLittle House series: A peek into pioneer life. This series was a childhood favorite of mine, along with the TV series.
  • Jules Verne – Grandfather of adventure fiction! His books were my son’s introduction to adventure stories.
Recommendations From My (Now Adult) Son:
  • Terry Goodkind – His Sword of Truth and Confessor series are immersive adult fantasy adventures with rich world-building. (Note: the books are more mature, but the TV series is family-friendly.)
  • Steve Alten – A favorite of my son’s! His Meg series is a thrilling deep-sea adventure with megalodons. (Pro tip from my son: skip the movies, stick to the books.)
  • Michael CrichtonJurassic Park and beyond. Sci-fi and dinosaurs? Yes, please.
  • Christopher PaoliniThe Inheritance Cycle is an epic fantasy adventure my son introduced me to. It was a great adventure. (And yes, the books are way better than the movie!)
